Gul-e, the council-engineered cross-pavement EV charging solution, today announces the appointment of leading commercial strategist Shayne Rees as Director to drive the national democratisation of on-street EV infrastructure. Bringing nearly two decades of energy sector expertise to the business, Rees will lead Gul-e’s commercial expansion to eliminate the unfair ‘driveway tax’ for millions of UK motorists by scaling public-realm cross-pavement networks across local authorities and housing associations.

With 40% of UK households lacking access to a private driveway, deploying practical, secure, and durable on-street charging infrastructure is critical to ensuring no community is left behind in the transition to Net Zero. Gul-e’s cross-pavement channels allow residents to safely connect to affordable overnight home charging tariffs without creating street-level trip hazards, estate clutter, or long-term asset maintenance overheads for housing providers.

Rees has been at the forefront of the UK’s urban EV transition throughout his career. Before joining Gul-e, he served as Senior Partnership Consultant and Head of Marketing for char.gy, and Head of Sales and Marketing for ubitricity (a Shell company), driving the commercial expansion of prominent on-street public charging networks. His deep-rooted sector expertise is built on a foundational 18-year tenure with energy giant EDF Energy, where he led marketing, communications, and commercial strategies.

At Gul-e, Rees will leverage his extensive background navigating public-sector policy, local governance, and scalable clean-tech deployment to drive the company’s next phase of market expansion across the UK’s terraced streets and housing estates.

His first industry appearance for Gul-e will take place later this month, where he will be demonstrating the solution live to local government and housing delegates at the APSE Annual Seminar and Service Awards in Liverpool on 16 and 17 September.
